The Chair pursues a spatial focus containing the local and the regional planning levels as well as an European planning perspective. The topics are in range of planning and development of municipal, suburban and regional settlements and also open spaces.

In consideration of the European Regional Development the planning is done on levels of national, regional and urban land-use planning with the appropriate formal and informal instruments used in science, research and practice constitute the focal point of teachings and research at the Chair.

In this context, the relevant methodical and administrative subjects for the respective levels of planning - including the planning instruments - play an important role. Due to the related spatial context the ordinary used scales reach from 1:1.000 to 1:5 million. Beside the mentioned planning objectives, other terms of considerations of the Chair are the content and the methods of the different sectoral plans on the levels of the spatial overall planning.
